Joe Weller spent 23 years as a member of the Household Cavalry and finished his career as the Chief Instructor at the Army School of Equitation. As an Advanced event rider representing the Household Cavalry, Joe competed at many international events including Bramham, Blenheim, Weston Park, Sansaw, Osberton, Windsor & Tweseldown, and organised the Melton Horse Trials from 2000 to 2003.

Currently a Director of Express Eventing, Joe is a British Eventing Gold Course Builder and a BE Silver Course Designer. He’s been a member of the XC build team for Burghley International 3DE CIC**** since 2005 and was part of the XC repair team for the Eventing competition at the 2012 London Olympics.

Over the past 16 years Joe’s designed and built numerous courses including Knaptoft International Horse Trials incl. CIC* & CIC** (2009- 2011), Brooksby Horse Trials, from greenfield site (2005 – 2015), Houghton International 3DE incl. CIC* & CIC ** & Advanced, from greenfield site (2006 – 2015) & Burnham Market International Horse Trials incl. World Cup Qualifier CIC*** (2005 – 2014). Joe currently supports the Bishop Burton Horse Trials incl. FEI Junior European & National PC Tetrathlon Champs, Lincoln Horse Trials and Poplar Park Horse Trials.

AJW Equestrian is Joe’s Lincolnshire-based business providing professional course-building and design services from BE 80 to Advanced. Joe is available for consultation, groundwork advice and the build of both private fences and complete XC courses for individuals and equestrian establishments.

Joe provides a bespoke service, from a couple of fences to improve existing facilities, to an end-to-end new build on a greenfield site.  Joe knows that your cross country course, its presentation, rideability and the quality of the going are of the utmost importance. Health and safety is always a priority, whether it be fitting frangible pins or the correct fixing of a portable, and Joe maintains close links with British Eventing’s safety program.

As well as building permanent fences and water complexes, Joe offers a wide range of portable fences.

As Directors of Norton Disney Equestrian Ltd, Ali and Joe have run the Norton Disney Horse Trials since 2010. This beautifully presented British Eventing (BE) Horse Trials is held twice-yearly in Lincolnshire, renowned for its friendly atmosphere and a firm favourite in the competition calendar of many riders.

Joe’s wife Ali Weller is also a former BE Advanced event rider. With her three Advanced horses – Danger Mouse IV, Just Daab and What No Cash – Ali completed the Gatcombe International Horse Trials CCI**, Weston Park, Osberton, Windsor and Tweseldown.

Ali has a BSC (Hons) Agriculture degree from Wye College, University of London. An equestrian Coach & Instructor (BHS AI & Stage 4), Ali trains riders of all ages, disciplines and abilities – including their own two children, Teya & Isobel :-)

Ali is an Alexander Technique Teacher and freelance Lecturer in the Alexander Technique (Equestrian) including Brooksby Melton (Equine) College and Army Military equitation courses.
